Sultanhanı Caravanserai in Turkey Tours

Sultanhanı Caravanserai is one of the finest and largest surviving caravanserais from the Seljuk period in Turkey. Located near Aksaray along the historic Silk Road, it was built in the 13th century during the reign of Seljuk Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad I.

The impressive complex was designed to provide shelter, security and facilities for merchants, travellers and their caravans travelling across Anatolia. Its monumental stone entrance, known as the crowned gate, opens into a large courtyard surrounded by rooms and service areas. A covered section provided additional accommodation during the colder months.

Today, Sultanhanı offers visitors a fascinating glimpse into the history of Seljuk architecture and Silk Road trade. Its massive stone walls, ornate entrance and historic courtyard make it an important cultural stop when travelling between Cappadocia and Konya.
