Got Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Answer. The best time is March to June (spring/summer) and September to December (autumn/winter). The weather is pleasant and ideal for sightseeing. Avoid the monsoon months (July–August) due to heavy rainfall and landslides.

Answer. Yes, Sikkim is considered one of the safest tourist destinations in India. The locals are friendly, crime rate is very low, and the state is clean and eco-friendly.

Answer. No, Nathula remains closed on Mondays and Tuesdays and may shut during heavy snowfall or landslides. Permits are subject to availability.

  • Answer. For Nathula Pass, Tsomgo Lake, Baba Mandir, North Sikkim (Lachen, Lachung, Gurudongmar, Yumthang) – a special permit is required. Tour operators usually arrange this with valid ID and passport-size photos.
  • Foreign nationals require Protected Area Permits (PAP) for most restricted zones.

Answer. You can find North Indian, South Indian, Chinese, Continental, and authentic Sikkimese food. Popular local dishes include momos, thukpa, phagshapa, gundruk, and sel roti.

Answer. Yes, at higher altitudes like Gurudongmar Lake (17,800 ft) and Nathula Pass (14,000 ft), travelers may feel breathless or dizzy. Carry medicines and avoid strenuous activity.

  • Answer. Mobile networks like Jio, Airtel, BSNL work well in Gangtok and major towns.
  • In remote areas (North Sikkim), connectivity is poor or sometimes unavailable. Wi-Fi is available in most hotels in Gangtok.

Answer. MG Marg in Gangtok is famous for handicrafts, prayer flags, woolens, organic tea, and souvenirs. Pelling and Namchi also have small local markets.

Answer. Sikkim offers a range of options – from budget hotels, homestays, mid-range hotels to luxury resorts in Gangtok, Pelling, and Namchi. North Sikkim has basic hotels & homestays due to remote location.

Answer. A typical trip lasts 5–7 days, covering Gangtok, Tsomgo Lake, Nathula Pass, and Pelling. For a more relaxed and extended holiday including North Sikkim (Lachen, Lachung, Yumthang), 8–10 days are ideal.
