Rottnest Island (Wadjemup) is a spectacular island destination off the coast of Western Australia, famous for its pristine beaches, turquoise waters, scenic coastal landscapes and friendly quokkas. Located about 19 kilometres from Perth, the island is easily accessible by ferry and is a popular day-trip destination.
Visitors can explore the island’s beautiful coastline, relax on beaches and bays, go snorkelling, swimming, cycling and wildlife spotting, or discover its rich Aboriginal and maritime heritage. With very limited private vehicle access, cycling is one of the best ways to explore the island.
Rottnest Island is particularly renowned for its quokkas, a small marsupial native to the region, and is widely regarded as one of the best places to encounter these unique animals in their natural environment.
A visit to Rottnest Island combines beaches, wildlife, outdoor adventure and Western Australian heritage, making it a memorable addition to a Perth itinerary.
