Activity Policies
- Train services operate according to the railway's published timetable and running season.
- The 2026 steam season is scheduled from 28 March to 1 November 2026.
- Children must be supervised at all times, and children under 16 cannot travel on the train without supervision.
- Well-behaved dogs are welcome and can travel free of charge, but they must not occupy passenger seats.
- The railway is a working railway environment, so passengers must follow staff instructions and safety requirements.
- Timetables are subject to change without notice.
- For operational reasons, a diesel locomotive may occasionally replace the scheduled steam locomotive.
- Assistance is available for passengers who require help accessing the train; visitors are advised to speak with railway staff.
- Groups of 20 or more can arrange reserved seating and group rates, with advance booking required.

- Although the service is advertised as a steam-train experience, operational circumstances may require a diesel locomotive or motor launch to replace the steam locomotive/service.
- The railway aims to keep public areas accessible. Visitors requiring assistance, particularly when boarding the train, should ask a member of staff.
- Group rates are available for groups of more than 20 people, with reserved seating available for pre-booked groups. Groups must generally be booked in advance.
- Public tickets are sold on the day of travel, and the railway states that it does not currently take advance online bookings for standard public train tickets.
- The standard return journey is approximately 50 minutes, travelling between Haverthwaite and Lakeside and back.
- Children aged 3–15 are charged child fares, while children under 3 travel free under the standard conditions.
Cancellation Policy
Tickets for the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway are generally non-refundable once purchased. If the railway cancels the scheduled service, passengers may be offered an alternative date or refund in accordance with the operator's terms and conditions. Timetables and services are subject to change due to weather, operational requirements or circumstances beyond the operator's control.
