Activity Overview

The Great Theatre of Ephesus, near Selçuk and Kuşadası, is one of the most impressive surviving monuments of the ancient city of Ephesus. Built into the slopes of Mount Panayir, the theatre was developed and enlarged during the Hellenistic and Roman periods and became a major centre for public performances, gatherings and civic events.

The theatre features a vast semicircular auditorium with numerous tiers of stone seating, offering excellent views towards the stage. In Roman times, its elaborate stage building and enormous capacity reflected the importance of Ephesus as one of the major cities of the ancient Mediterranean.

The Great Theatre is also associated with the Apostle Paul, who preached in Ephesus during the early Christian period. Today, visitors can walk through the ancient seating areas and enjoy impressive views of the archaeological site, experiencing the scale and grandeur of ancient Ephesus.
