Glasgow Cathedral is one of Scotland’s finest surviving medieval buildings and one of the few medieval churches on mainland Scotland to have survived the Protestant Reformation of 1560 virtually intact. Dedicated to St Kentigern, also known as St Mungo, the city’s patron saint, the cathedral stands on the site associated with his early church and played an important role in the development of medieval Glasgow.

The cathedral is renowned for its impressive Gothic architecture, including pointed arches, tall windows and distinctive vaulted spaces. One of its highlights is the 13th-century Lower Church, a beautiful stone crypt built around the tomb of St Mungo, which once attracted pilgrims from across medieval Scotland. Visitors can also admire the early-15th-century pulpitum screen and the cathedral’s remarkable collection of post-war stained glass.

  4. Historic Environment Scotland reserves the right to refuse entry where a visitor's admission could endanger visitors or staff, or where an unauthorised commercial activity such as commercial filming is intended.
  5. Tickets or passes, where applicable, are generally non-refundable, except where the terms specifically provide for a refund. Refunds are not normally provided because of poor weather, queues or waiting times.
  6. Tickets cannot be copied, transferred or resold.
  7. For general admission tickets at Historic Environment Scotland sites, entry is valid for the selected date and time, and entry outside the booked time cannot be guaranteed. Re-entry is not permitted.
  8. If the site has to close unexpectedly, visitors with a specific-date admission ticket are entitled to a full refund under the applicable terms.
  9. Children aged 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult aged 16 or over, subject to the specified adult-to-child ratios.
  10. There is currently no wheelchair lift at Glasgow Cathedral, according to the official visitor information.
  11. Assistance dogs are permitted, including within roofed areas.

 Entry to Glasgow Cathedral is free of charge, so no cancellation or refund policy applies to a standard visit. Any separately purchased audio guide, guided tour or other paid service is subject to the applicable Historic Environment Scotland ticket terms and conditions.
