Activity Policies
- Visitors must follow the instructions of Basilica staff and security personnel.
- Appropriate and respectful clothing is required as the Basilica is a place of worship; shoulders and knees should be covered.
- Visitors must maintain silence and respectful behaviour inside the Basilica.
- Photography and filming may be restricted in certain areas and should never disturb religious services or other visitors.
- Touching or damaging mosaics, artworks, architectural elements or furnishings is strictly prohibited.
- Visitors must remain within designated areas and respect restricted zones.
- Food, drinks and smoking are not permitted inside the Basilica.
- Large bags and luggage may be subject to cloakroom or security restrictions.
- Children should remain under the supervision of an accompanying adult.
- Access may be temporarily restricted during religious celebrations, maintenance or security requirements.
Terms & Conditions
- Booking Confirmation: Tickets are issued for a specific date and time. The ticket should be presented digitally or in printed form at the entrance, together with valid identification where required.
- Timed Entry: Visitors must enter at the booked time. The official rules allow only a limited tolerance around the scheduled entry time.
- Identification: Tickets are named, and visitors may be required to present a valid identity document matching the ticket.
- Dress Code: As the Basilica is a place of worship, visitors must dress appropriately, with shoulders and knees covered, and maintain respectful behaviour.
- Religious Services: Visitor access may be temporarily suspended during religious services or special celebrations.
- Luggage Restrictions: Backpacks or luggage larger than 40 × 30 × 20 cm are not permitted. Trolley bags are not permitted.
- Ticket Changes: Purchased tickets cannot be amended.
- Cancellation & Refund: Tickets are refundable only in the circumstances specified in the official General Terms & Conditions of Sale. The normal consumer right of withdrawal does not apply to leisure services booked for a specific date or period.
- Changes by the Basilica: A visit may be rescheduled because of religious celebrations, extraordinary organisational requirements or force-majeure circumstances. If the Procuratoria cancels the visit or offers a different date that the visitor does not accept, a refund may be provided according to the official conditions.
- Unauthorised Tickets: Tickets purchased in breach of the official terms or from unauthorised sellers may be considered invalid and cancelled without refund.
- Opening Hours: The official site currently lists Basilica access from 9:30 AM to 4:45 PM Monday–Saturday, and 2:00 PM to 4:45 PM on Sundays and holy days, with closure at 5:15 PM. Times may change for religious celebrations or special occasions.
- Additional Areas: The Basilica ticket does not automatically include the Pala d’Oro, Museum/Loggia dei Cavalli or Bell Tower; these may require separate or combined tickets.
Cancellation Policy
Tickets for the Basilica di San Marco cannot be amended and are refundable only in accordance with the official General Terms and Conditions of Sale. If the visit is cancelled by the Procuratoria of San Marco or an alternative date is offered and not accepted by the visitor, a refund may be provided. Customer cancellations are otherwise subject to the official ticket terms.
