As you would have already known, Shangri-La's
Rasa Sayang Resort has been closed since 1 December 2004 to facilitate
an unprecedented redevelopment and repositioning programme. The project
costing approximately RM100 million is scheduled for completion in
mid 2006 and the resort will reopen in its new incarnation as Shangri-La's
Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa.
We are most pleased to report that the redevelopment work is now in
full swing and good progress has been made.
In early June, the Rasa Wing swimming pools, Coffee Garden, Feringgi
Grill Restaurant & Bar and WaKa Japanese Restaurant were demolished.
Two blocks of building which housed 148 guestrooms were also torn
down. All these areas are within the Rasa Wing (old wing) section,
a sizeable portion of which has been earmarked for the construction
of the CHI Spa Village, an exclusive retreat complete with private
villas and treatment rooms. Great care has been taken to leave the
century-old raintrees in garden grounds untouched and they will tower
over the completed CHI Spa Village, retaining the feel of lush gardens
in the tropics.
Elsewhere, work on the spectacular new lobby at the Garden Wing as
well as all parts of the resort has started. This includes the demolition
of walls, mechanical and electrical work in the guestrooms and suites.
A majority of the rooms will be expanded, with the average space being
increased from the original 31 sq metres to approximately 62 sq metres.
The interior designers, Lim, Tao & Wilkes Design Works (LTW) from
Singapore have completed two mock-up rooms and the result for all
to view is outstanding, particularly the two-bay unit which comes
with elegant furnishings including a relaxing bathtub on the balcony,
believed to be a first within Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts.
We have also begun conducting site visits for our guests who have
returned to stay at neighbouring Golden Sands Resort. This weekly
tour will take guests to the actual work site where they can see for
themselves the physical changes that have taken place as well as the
work in progress.
We will continue to keep you updated on this exciting project from
time to time.
